Chad is a fifth year PhD student in biomedical engineering at Carnegie Mellon University. His research focuses on predictably manipulating protein bioactivity and stability using polymer-based protein engineering. Much of his work has centered around altering kinetics and stability of the enzyme chymotrypsin (CT), specifically using temperature-responsive polymers. He is also interested in understanding the structural effects of polymers on proteins in protein-polymer conjugates and using polymers to selectively target proteins in the GI tract. In the future, he hopes to use these same polymer based techniques to improve the efficacy of protein-based therapeutics.
